The intense and deeply fragrant spice plant, which primarily earned its fame through its use in Mediterranean cuisine, is much more than this. The plant is firmly anchored in several cultures as a medicinal herb – above all, in its indigenous country of India and the ancient Indian medicine, Ayurveda.
Colloquially also known as the king of herbs, basil empowers the mind and strengthens the body’s natural defences. The precious distillate, which is used in perfumes, bath products and cosmetics, is obtained from the flowering herb.
In light of its antispasmodic properties, basil is particularly valued as a stress-beater.
